Mouthguard Maintenance

How to maintain your mouthguard through good cleaning processes.

A mouthguard is an important piece of gear for the sports field. Here are some top tips for mouthguard maintenance;

  • Rinse the mouthguard in soap and Luke-warm (not hot) water after each use and allow it to air-dry.

  • The mouthguard can be disinfected time-to-time using mouthwash

  • Keep the mouthguard in a ventilated storage container when not in use.

  • Heat will damage the mouthguard, so ensure it is stored in a cool dry place. Avoid leaving it in hot environments such as a closed car.

  • Check your patient's mouthguard at their check-up appointments to ensure it is in good condition, or replace if damaged.

  • It's ideal to replace a Childs mouthguard every 12 months due to their growing and changing jaws.
